Vanity of Eve

Vanity
of
Eve

The sky above was dark, as it was supposed to be. Freckles of light glistened sparsely, showing the truth above, which was blinded by the brightness of the sun.

The darkness reached light-years away, showing the dim, endless possibilities. All happening as I was standing in a place that would never return.

Sure, the soil, the pavement, or everything that touches my feet would be here. But as things go, everything moves, and so does our space. Within a few colors and freckles of lights, this exact coordinate of place would never return in my life.

That thought made me perceive the beliefs I hold as meaningless. As the place I am standing and the place I desired to be both are obsolete.

Then, I lower my head and see the reality I was in—the school, the houses, all lit up in a predictable way, and the stores. All of it so small, but big enough to be distant. Something I became so familiar with. Turn my head, and I guess what’s out there. All the mystery had its answer in my head. And I turned to the smallest anomalies I could find. Perhaps, a wind.

Yes, the wind will always blow. It brushes me gently, and I could feel it was the wind that touches numerous places and many people. Maybe one of them is the place I belong to. My home. I let it pass through me; I could smell its scent. Then, it is gone.

Left with the same streets.
And so, I decided to look up again before tomorrow’s sun comes up.
